Volunteer FAQs

How old do I need to be to volunteer at Green Bay Fear?

Volunteers need to be 13 years of age or older to volunteer on their own (with parental permission slip signed and returned). Anyone interested in volunteering that is under the age of 13 would need to volunteer directly with an adult family member or friend 18 years of age or older. Security, ticket booth, and gift shop volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older.

Can I volunteer with a friend?

Of course! Everyone will need to have the proper forms filled out before volunteering, but the more the merrier. As long as you follow directions and do what you are asked, as well as following the volunteer rules of Green Bay Fear. We want you to have fun while volunteering!

What types of volunteer positions are there?

Of course, acting is the most popular way to volunteer at Green Bay Fear, but there is a volunteer position for everyone! We are always searching for ticket takers for our four haunt areas, ticket booth and gift shop staff, and security. These positions do not require makeup and costume, but could be in makeup and costume if appropriate. Volunteers are provided with fruit, water, and hot chocolate while we are open, but there are other snacks available for purchase.

Will these hours count toward community service requirements?

Yes. We would be happy to write you a letter. However, it is your responsibility to inform us that you need one and pick it up at the end of haunt season. We will not be able to go back into our records to backdate these forms. We will also be happy to fill out any forms you need.

What do I need to wear?

Dressing for the weather is incredibly important. We are mostly outside. It can get warm in the main house haunt, but if you know that you’re going to be outside acting, wear layers and dress appropriately for the weather. We do provide hand warmers to outside actors by request. Costumes and props can be brought from home, but any items brought from home will need to be preapproved by the house manager. Props must not be real knives, axes, etc. If you don’t have your own costumes and props, that is okay! Green Bay Fear has a great makeup & costume department that can help you get into character quickly.

What time do I need to arrive to volunteer, and where do I go?

Registration for actors is from 4-5 PM each night we’re open, with registration ending at 6 PM. You must arrive by 6:30 PM at the latest. Arrive early for the first chance at costume and makeup (if you aren’t doing your own). Registration is in the blue registration trailer on the West side of the Beja Shrine building. (When looking directly at the building, it is the left hand side of the parking lot, behind a line of RV’s). This is where everyone will check in and check out, and where house managers will be in case of any problems. You will need to check in and check out each night you volunteer. This is also where you will drop off any necessary forms. When you are at Green Bay Fear, you are expected to work until you are dismissed by a house manager.

Can I bring personal items?

You can, however it is not recommended. We do not have enough locker space for everyone, and are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Cell phones can be left in the manager trailer to be used on breaks and given back at the end of the night, if needed. (Each one will be put into a baggie with the person’s name on it. We will not answer or look at any.) We will also not be responsible for any phone charging while you are volunteering, unless it is an emergency.
